Who is your Super ONE and why?

July 30, 2010

Dearest Mom,

You know I've written numerous times to you before. And on this date most especially. This is because today is that one day where I miss you most and I remember what happened 13 years ago. I've tried to recall what happened, tried to understand the signs. I knew it was a normal day at school but when I got called to the principal's office, I knew something was wrong.

I didn't want to admit it then but as I waited for my sister to arrive in the car, I already felt something wrong was happening. From the way the leaves were blowing in front of me, I knew something would mark today. This would be a day that will forever mark my identity. And it will forever be a day that I look back to July 30, 1997 and try to reach out to you once more.

I've written numerous letters. Letters that will forever remain unanswered. Aside from letters, I've also shared some poems. Maybe the cyberspace has consumed these letters. Maybe someday someone will answer them in behalf of you. But until that day comes, I will keep writing a letter to you particularly on this day.

I only knew you for 11 years. To some, this may already be enough time. But I know that this has been insufficient. There could have been a lot more memories that we could have shared: my elementary graduation, first menstruation, first date, first kiss, first heartbreak-- but I was tasked to battle through those alone. Instead of having you beside me, I only called out to you in my dreams and in my tears. I asked for your embrace, smile, and advice even though I knew no one would hear me. I prayed that you would return, even just in my dreams or a mirage in a crowded street.

Sometimes I think I see your face in a crowd of people, staring at me, smiling. But I can never be too sure. Time has erased my memory of you. I am also growing older each year and my memories are not as sharp as they used to be. Sometimes I even have to ask people around me to remind me of certain things: people I just met, a previous experience, or the reason why I should be angry at someone.

Mom, I'm now 24. I've walked this earth more than the time I knew you. And even though my memory keeps fading, I still hope that my time with you is one that will never be erased. Our 11 years together is all I have left from you. I don't want that to disappear, even if everything and everyone has.

And maybe this is why I keep writing letters to you, particularly on this day. To bring me back the memory of my beautiful mother. And despite my busy schedule and my crazy world, today is our day: the day you were taken from me.

I came across Globe's Super One contest. And even though I wanted to win the phone so bad, it made me realize that I don't have a "Super One." I could write about Dad, my sister, or one of my best friends. But that would seem cliche and unoriginal. Instead, I thought of writing to you Mom. Despite the fact that today is your 13th death anniversary, you will always remain as my SUPER ONE. No one can and ever will replace you.

Your daughter,

Trixie

iPhone App: Angry Birds

Lately, my sister (Bubot) has been borrowing my iTouch every chance she gets. She was never a fan of my iTouch but when I showed her a new application that I downloaded a few weeks ago, she instantly became hooked to it. So much so that she and her boyfriend (Ronnie) have been playing with my device and have even passed several stages I have not even encountered. So this is my review of the new iTouch game: Angry Birds.

For those who are not yet familiar with this game, it is a highly addictive iPhone application that will make you go crazy! Every stage is unique and is equally challenging as the previous one. If you want to know more about this game, check out this cinematic trailer which was created for the game.

I first knew about this game when I searched for new apps to download using my iTouch. The good thing about Angry Birds is that there is a free trial that you can download. With the free trial, you can check out how well the game is and whether or not you will enjoy it.

After finishing the trial, I decided to purchase the app since it only costs $0.99. And I did not regret buying it! Even though I am super busy, the game keeps me happy when I end up (surprisingly) with nothing to do. The reason why I mentioned that the game is highly addictive is because it will make you stop work and concentrate on your projectiles and angles.

Even Luis Manzano has become interested in this app as he has mentioned the game in his Twitter account.

For anyone who wants to have a good laugh, I suggest you get the app. Tell me when you’ve been able to finish it! I’d love to learn some tricks! ^,^

SALT: Should You Watch It?

Last night, I was invited by Cerbojam to watch SALT along with Martin. We attended the red carpet screening of the movie.

Here is my opinion about the movie and why you should watch it:

1. Yes, everyone knows Angelina Jolie's in it. This is one of the movies that she has dyed her hair blonde. And she looks pretty as a blonde! Angelina Jolie was so cool in the movie. There were a few scenes though that reminded me of her role in the movie, Wanted. Especially the ones where she stood on top of the truck.

2. Angelina Jolie... as a dude? Yep. Just go watch it. =)

3. Cool effects. I loved how the movie was done. Very realistic.

4. Awesome makeup! In the beginning of the movie, you can see a good job done by the prosthetic team of the star. It would really make you think that she got beat up by some people.

The thing that I did not like about the movie though was that it was a bit predictable for me. I kind of new who the villain was already but still I waited and hoped to be wrong. =(

Anyway, go watch it. It's a good movie. Well, it's no Inception. But still, it's good. Plus I think Angelina Jolie did a better job as Salt instead of their original plan to cast Tom Cruise (which would have been awkward).

Gastro Chef Pilipinas Board

No, I'm not talking about the board of directors or the Senate. Since today is President Noynoy Aquino's first SONA, Gastro Chef has just presented a new line of kitchen equipment that will truly attract those who are feeling nationalistic, particularly on this day.

The Pilipinas Board is unlike your ordinary plastic chopping board. This one contains a map of the Philippines on the side of its surface. Not to mention, the board has been made with 2 exclusive and sustainable native wood species: Philippine Rosewood and Yakal.

With the materials it has used, it is clear that the board is one that appeals to the hearts of those who want to celebrate with today's successful SONA.

The Pilipinas Board is available at P1,895.00

Moi Moi Marcampo Congratulations!

To those who may not be aware of it, I was once a culinary arts student. That was last year and it took up 5 months of my life before I decided not to continue. Although I regret taking the course (financially), I do not regret meeting the people who shared their knowledge and experience with me.

I may not be a chef now but I think I have grown to know where I truly belong.

Anyway, cable was just reconnected at home and as I was channel surfing, I found this advertisement:

In this commercial is Moi Moi Marcampo along with her boss, Piolo Pascual. Moi is a fellow student at AICA but we don't belong in the same batch. Correct me if I'm wrong but she's batch 24. I'm in batch 23.

Anyway, I was only able to join Moi and our friends a couple of times. That's because it was already the time I was about to stop culinary. But she is really a deserving girl. For all her hard work, it's such a blessing for her to be rewarded with a boss like Piolo.

Aside from this commercial, you can also remember Moi was the maid of Eugene Domingo's character in the 2009 hit comedy, Kimmy Dora.

Congrats Moi! Artista ka na! =)

PR Material: Salt

Multiply Sellers Corner: Upper East Side

Because of an ugly experience with an online seller in Facebook, I became a bit conscious about my online purchases. Even if I have always been extra careful, this unnamed experience reminded me not to give a 100% trust to these sellers, especially the ones for pre-order.

No, it wasn't because I was scammed. The products did arrive on time but the quality of the clothes were far from the posted details. And when I sent a feedback, she blocked me from her friends list. It was pretty weird. I mean, I was only giving out my HONEST opinion. If she wasn't hiding anything, why would she block me right?!

So anyway, that was then.

Last night, I met up with an online seller from
Multiply. I was pretty interested in her clothes as I've long been interested in vintage-y looking clothes. And true enough, her clothes are really vintage and have been purchased from abroad. What's best is they were on sale, despite the fact that they were already affordable!

I met up with the Upper East Side in
Serendra last night. The seller, Michelle, was friendly as she accommodated me into the restroom and waited while I tried on the clothes. She even gave me some suggestions on how I could wear the clothes and the belt.

One of the items I purchased.

All in all, I purchased 3 items from her. And my total bill was only P880! Such a good buy! I can't wait for her next items. =)
