Amy Winehouse: Dead at 27!

Today, I woke up with news to Amy Winehouse's death. At first, I thought that the source of this information was just making up a crazy title to his blog so he can get higher traffic. But I found it on another friend's status post in Facebook, so I just had to verify. I'm not usually the type of person who posts the same kind of stuff that other people have already shared, but considering his blog did not have any reason as to the cause of death, I decided to share what I knew:

LONDON (AP) - Amy Winehouse, the beehived soul-jazz diva whose self-destructive habits overshadowed a distinctive musical talent, was found dead Saturday in her London home, police said. She was 27.
Police confirmed that a 27-year-old female was pronounced dead at the home in Camden Square northern London; the cause of death was not immediately known. London Ambulance Services said Winehouse had died before the two ambulance crews it sent arrived at the scene.
 -- source: Yahoo! News
Here's a YouTube video for the news.

And this one too:

RIP Amy Winehouse. You weren't exactly one of my favorites but your talent will greatly be missed.

Decisions Decisions

Before anything else, I would like to say thank you to the people who told me not to give up. I am really grateful that I have friends and family members that are supportive of what I do. For this, a BIG THANK YOU!

Changes in my Blog
Well, like I said, I removed my Site Visit Counter widget and have no longer used Plurk as intensely as before. I have decided to keep my blog but write for myself. I do no longer want to write while thinking how other people will accept my entries.

I know there will always be some haters out there and insecure people who will try to bring me down. Sorry guys. Better luck next time, okay?

I am planning to revamp my blog. I am still deciding on it, still looking for a good look for my blog. But for now, enjoy this video. I really love this band and they are one of the very few whose concert I attended (in Bacolod). It was more of a gig than a concert, really but well.. that's that. I watched it with an ex.

I wonder where they are now....

Making Up by Sharing SoN's Cover of Slide (Goo Goo Dolls)

Hi everyone! Who missed me?

I'm sorry I haven't been blogging as much as I promised. Per my last post, I mentioned that I was moving into a new home and starting school-- all in one week. Things have been a roller coaster ride lately. There are days when I feel like I'm on top of my game, and there are days when I feel so alone. It's a circle of life that I really have to deal with.

Anyway, while I'm trying to be Superwoman, let me leave you guys with a video I took of Stories of Now playing Goo Goo DollsSlide. Now that my sister's wedding is done with, I think I have free time on my hands. So I'll be able to update my blog... Won't promise anything though.

Until my next post, please enjoy this song:

iPhone Apps: Glee Karaoke (I CAN SING!)

Did you know I can sing? Me neither!
Here I am singing Baby, It's Cold Outside (Glee version) through an iPhone app called Glee by Smule. I really like the app because it allows me to practice my vocal chords. Plus it somehow restructures my voice so I'm not so out of tune. ^,^

I highly suggest those who are frustrated singers to use this app! :)

A Night of Indie

/Reblogged from my tumblr site

So last night, I went to calm myself down after a tiring day. Also, it was to show support to a very dear friend/relative Kate Torralba and the tribute she offered to Whitest Boy Alive. It was my first time in Saguijo but I must say it's awesome. I liked the whole experience. :)
Of course, I would not have known about the event if it weren't for Clementine (The Camerawalls), a new friend I met when I attended a high society launch last week.

Albeit the responsible freelancer in me was scouring at the thought of being ahead of my deadline, I decided to give myself a break.

It was indeed a break I deserved well. I got to meet new people and listen to awesome music from the likes of:

Bullet Dumas
Bullet Dumas

Ang Bandang Shirley

Kate Torralba

It was a great night and my craving for indie was satisfied. This would probably be the farthest I'd go to watching a concert and stalking my favorite bands.

I liked photographing Sarah Gaugler (Turbo Goth)! But I'm out of touch with my camera... I should practice more.

Yes, Alessandra De Rossi Sings

I am a big fan of music! I don't say it out that much but I really am. The only genres I can't stand is Rap, Heavy Metal, and Country. Don't get me wrong, it's just that these have a negative effect on me, especially when I'm driving.

Anyway, I was able to come across Alessandra De Rossi's website through some tweets on Twitter. I know everyone knows Alex as one of the country's most coveted actresses. I did not expect though that SHE COULD SING! Even until today, when I let other people hear her songs, they are shocked that she could actually sing. What's more is that I did not expect I would be such a fan of her singing instead of her acting.

Right now, Alex's song Make It Better is my ringtone on my phone. I really really like it a lot since it's a chillout song which does not sound too slow. For the first few months since I heard the song, I have always been asking people what the song reminded them of. I know that the song has been inspired by one of my favorite chill tracks, I just couldn't remember what its title was. I would usually hum the track to people 'tun tun tun.. tun tun tunnnn.. tunnnnannn.....' and they would NOT get me. I knew it was there somewhere. I just couldn't put my finger on it.

Make It Better by Alessandra de Rossi

Luckily, Aloha (my sister in law) was in my dad's office yesterday. Since she used to have several of the songs I loved in College, I asked if she remembered the song. Again, I hummed the lyrics to her and she was able to recall what it was! Thank God!!!

It was actually Kissing by Bliss. She remembered the track since it's on the movie soundtrack of her favorite TV show, Sex and the City 1.

So I'm sharing the two tracks with you guys so you could also give me a comment on what you think. Do you think Alex's song resembles Bliss's Kissing? Let me know! ^,^

Who's Holding _____ Now?

Okay, I'm calling it a night.

Here's a good night song for everyone! If I could just change the lyrics of the song, I'd change it to "Who's Holding __________ Now?"Yeah, I'm hoping I know how he is right now. ^,^

Music: La Nina Cerveza by I.B.A.

If you're looking for a new song to upload to your iPod, iTouch, or any other mp3 player, you can always find the latest songs by listening to the radio. But if you're looking for a new band that plays really good songs, then you should be going here. TheGypsyWrites.

I am lucky enough to have friends who introduce me to wonderful people. [Thank you Angel!] And in turn, these people have introduced me to several others who have helped me in my career. [Thank you Sammii!] This is why I am also here to help expose these people and show the public that they have a talent.

I really believe that my friends, the 5 over 5 gang, has a lot of potential when it comes to music, art, theater and writing. Don't get me wrong, I have lots of other friends like G-Clan, my High School bestfriends, friends from College, and even friends from photography, etc. All of these friends share a distinct interest with me. And with this, my friends from 5 over 5 are those who really have the talent for the arts.

I have introduced Stories of Now before. Now let me introduce you to their sister band, I.B.A.

The reason why I.B.A. is considered as the sister band of Stories of Now is because their lead vocalist and keytar player, Mela, is part of the 5 over 5 group. Along with members Migz (vocals & keyboards), Trini (vocals & bass), Raymond (percussions), and Gyte (guitars), these people make up the band called I.B.A.

I.B.A. is a new band and they have not yet released an album. They are talented and have a unique sound which is new to our Philippine music. Their genre is electro and they have a slight techno-house sound.

Among their songs include La Nina Cerveza, Narcissism at its Best, Pretention, Glad to Know that I Don't Know, Love at First Dance, and No Regrets.

Mela was generous enough to send me an mp3 track of their original song, La Nina Cerveza, which I absolutely love! This song reminds me of summer and is the perfect road trip song. Since summer has just ended, I look forward to playing this song on my next summer outing. I also see this song as part of the TV summer plugs that local stations usually do. Could anyone refer this to ABS-CBN? ^,^

To get updates on the next gig or any new track by I.B.A., add them on their Facebook page by clicking this: I.B.A.

Listen to their original mp3 La Nina Cerveza by clicking on the title.

Good luck I.B.A. and I hope to photograph you guys someday *hint, hint Mela. *,^

Music: Northern Lights Music Video

Thanks to Candy, I got news for Stories of Now fans...

Remember the shoot that the band invited us to go to? Unfortunately, I wasn't able to join since I was so busy and it was held at Ateneo, which is on the other end of where I live. To all who were there at the July 10, 2010 shoot for the music video of Northern Lights, Flippish.com is launching it today!!!

For all those who weren't able to join (like me), today's our chance to see everyone's hard work and contribution for making this happen.

Congrats Altair, Shark, Angelo, and Marlon! You guys deserve it! Congrats to the LSS staff behind Flippish.com for seeing the talent of this band. :)

Music: Sweet Ballad by Munchhausen By Proxy

You can all probably remember Jim Carrey's movie Yes Man. For those who haven't seen it yet, I sure hope you watch it soon. It's a really good movie that tells how one person can become bored with his life. This is particularly true for those who work in dead end jobs that seem to be going nowhere. Much like Jim Carrey's character in the movie, it can often feel like you are waiting for something big to happen but the opportunity always passes by. For our protagonist though, it was because he was always too negative and never took a chance.

And this goes out to everyone who is afraid of taking chances. Don't be afraid to take a leap 'cause you'll never know what will happen if you don't.

Anyway, the reason why I'm blogging about this movie is because I absolutely love Zooey Deschanel. To those who aren't aware yet, Zooey is actually part of a duo known as She & Him. This is one of her songs that was played in Yes Man.

Music: Esly Sings Fall in Love

With the advent of technology, I was able to get acquainted with one of the upcoming hit artists of our generation-- Esly. I first found her when I saw her Facebook account being promoted. I didn't know that clicking on that link would show me a different world in music.

The thing I like most about Esly (although I've never met her) is that she seems like such a young Korean girl ready to face the Western world and show them that she has real talent. She is beautiful, talented, and funny.

From what I've learned (through constant communication with
DJ Lyon), Esly is still a student. And while I do believe the world is ready to be stunned by her powerful voice, I seriously hope she finishes her education before she pursues music.

Nevertheless, I think her fans from all over the world (currently over 12,000 in Facebook, 3,000 of which are from the Philippines) will understand the reason why this artist still cannot go on tour. But I do hope that when she does, she will visit our country as well. And despite the fact that I am agoraphobic, I will really be first in line to get to her concert! She just might be the first concert I ever go to. :)

Some of Esly's songs include Night and Day and Unfair (original), Fall In Love (Estelle), and Like A Star (Corinne Bailey Rae). All I can say is: I can't get enough of her awesome voice! MORE!!! :)
