Molten Choco Cake: The Orgasmic Delight That Won't Get You Pregnant

I'm sorry if I haven't blogged a while. Ever since I returned to Manila, work got hectic. I rarely have time to sleep. Most of my day is spent online. It hasn't been a month since I came home but I already miss something from Bacolod: Kuppa's Molten Chocolate Cake!

I used to love going to Cafe Bob's whenever I go home. But during my 1 month stay last December, I got to discover new restaurants that became my new favorites. Although Calea and Bob's will always be among my favorite restaurants, I have discovered new alternatives for them. Not many people will agree with me but I think the cakes in Calea have become too commercial for me. Except for their Cream Puff, I don't seem to find anything that I fancy. I know someone very close to me will get upset because I have turned my back against their family's business, but I speak the truth. I think that the only reason I'll go back to Calea is for their Cream Puff. I do prefer the cakes in Felicia's now.

As for Bob's, well, I really mean Cafe Bob's. I have traded in this cafe with Kuppa. I used to order Cafe Bianco and Choco Crunchies in Cafe Bob's but when I got to try Kuppa's White Cloud Mocha, I found a new favorite. I guess there really is room for change.

During my 1 month stay in Bacolod, I kept returning to Kuppa for several days. I wanted to try everything because their dishes have really grown on me. Plus, they are not so expensive (compared to Manila prices). I already posted a previous blog entry on Kuppa and I talked about their Wimpy's Burger, Strawberry Panna Cotta, Choco Peanut Butter Bomb, and their Mini Fruit Tart. But let me tell you something about the other dishes that I discovered in this restaurant:

1. Margherita Pizza

Oven baked gourmet thin crust pizza topped with mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, and basil leaves. They've been baked to perfection and the moment they touch your mouth, the tomato and mozzarella jive in a molten eruption!

2. Molten Choco Cake

Warm and succulent, chocolate oozes out every time your spoon hits the cake! This little baby is the perfect symphony of chocolate and cocoa powder. However, you have to be careful when you take a serving as you might inhale the cocoa dust and will leave you coughing. I love it because it's so good. One order isn't enough. I surely miss this since there isn't anything like it here in Manila.

Have A Kuppa Coffee Today

Every time I go home, I always look forward to eating in my favorite restaurants in Bacolod. Aside from meeting my friends and relatives, I always want to rekindle a memory of my childhood in the restaurants I have long known and loved.

Among these restaurants on my list is Kuppa Coffee and Tea. Even though they have been in business for 5-6 only, the place itself is very memorable to me. Located across St. John's Institute (Hua Wimg), Kuppa used to be the former home of Celine's Ice Cream Parlor, a 60-ish diner which had the best Banana Splits and Ice Cream Floats in town! Another dish I usually eat there is the French De Luxe sandwich.

But because Celine's wasn't doing well as it used to, the family decided to change the establishment. The whole antique building was demolished, including the home of the owners (Tan) located in the second floor of the building. With its disappearance came a new breed of coffee, dessert, and delicious food known as Kuppa

The whole facade of the establishment has even evolved. I could still recall how the building used to look like an old Spanish style building, the same ones that still stand on its neighborhood. In its place now stood a modern piece of architecture-- one that would attract lots of people.

Who knew it was only this change that would relive the glory of the ice cream parlor?

But change was good for the parlor. I remember that before the parlor evolved, there would only be 1 customer sitting in the establishment. To add to this, the restaurant was located across a Chinese school. This was bad for business because students loved to loiter in the parlor.

But because Kuppa was a tad bit more expensive than its former life, the people who frequented the cafe have also changed. The students have turned into young adults and those who are searching for a quiet night out after dinner. Yes, our age group have traded in their wild, crazy nights into a cozy evening surrounded by friends.

I made my way to Kuppa a few days ago, so I could savor the dish I have long missed: Wimpy's Burger. This is an open faced sandwich that had melted cheese topping on one side and a burger patty with gravy on the other.

But since Mimi (my companion) was also planning to order the dish, I decided to get the French DeLuxe-- a triple decker of tuna or chicken spread and ham, covered guiltlessly with melted cheese.

Despite it being delicious, there is only one French deluxe sandwich in town that I favor the most. But I'll talk about that next time.

For coffee, I missed Kuppa's White Cloud Mocha so I decided to order it. I really love drinking coffee that contains white chocolate in it. I even order the same kind of coffee in Cafe Bob's (more later). I only wish this was also available in Manila.

For dessert, I invited Mimi to check out the different cakes on display. If you don't want to eat cake, you can always try out their delicious gelato.

There was one particular cake that caught both our eyes, the moment we entered the cafe. But since I saw a mini Fruit Tart on the display case, I decided to let Mimi have hers. For the price of Mimi's order (Choco Peanut Butter Bomb), I got to order a Strawberry Panna Cotta and Fruit Tart. I decided to get the two so I could take more pictures.

I really liked the Fruit Tart because it was so good! It was not too sweet and too bland. I really liked it because it came in miniature sizes. I did not lose the taste after one serving, which is what made it more appealing to me! Plus, it only cost P50 for 3 pieces already!

As for the Strawberry Panna Cotta, I originally wanted the Mango version. But since it was out of stock, I decided to try the strawberry. I think if it were Mango, I would have enjoyed it much better. Now, I have to be biased with this because I'm not really a huge fan of Panna Cotta and Creme Brulee dishes. I think they are gooey and weird tasting. I liked Kuppa's Panna Cotta, which to be fair, is already a plus. Back in 2007, I got to try Kuppa's Green Tea Creme Brulee. Even though they still sell it, I warn you now DON'T ever order it! It tasted like lotion. Again, it's a bit biased because I don't like the taste of Green Tea

Now for the finale. Mimi ordered the Choco Peanut Butter Bomb. Upon entering Kuppa, this was the very first dish that caught our eye. This was strange because we both arrived in different times.

When you first look at it, you'd think it's hard and sticky. But once you pierce your teaspoon through it, it's really very soft. The top layer is cream and the base is moist chocolate cake. Between the two, you have an ample supply of peanut butter which makes the dish worthwhile. Everything is then covered with a soft blanket of chocolate ganache.

Mimi really liked this dish. I even took a picture of her enjoying her order.

It reminded me of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups! Hmmm... Now I'm craving for one. ^,^ I'm looking forward to my next visit in Kuppa! They also have a salad bar and I'm excited to try it out!  When you're in Bacolod, make sure you visit Kuppa! You'll know why we Ilonggos love it so much! Oh, they also have free Wi-Fi!

Kuppa Coffee and Tea is located in the corner of Tindalo-Hilado Sts., Bacolod City. If you want to get here, just tell the cab driver to take you to Kuppa, across St. John's Institute (Hua Wimg/ Waming).

The Best Eats in Bacolod

Since Masskara 2010 just ended, I reposted my list of the best eats in Bacolod. I compiled this list a year after I moved to Manila. I had to save my time before I could upload it because I did not have pictures yet. If you only know about the infamous Inasal, you have not truly experienced the best of Bacolod. Why? Read on below...

It may be because I practically lived in Bacolod my whole life but for me it's still the best place to grow up in. Being in Manila for nearly a year now has been a roller coaster ride filled with joyful moments, depressing memories and of course new adventures lurking just behi nd every corner. Nothing compares to the thrill of living in Manila and all of the endless possibilities that life can offer. Well.. that is.. almost nothing. Only if there were still s ome more to add to this almost perfect city.

Here is a list of the things in Bacolod that I crave for the most. If they may be already here in the city, I haven't encountered them yet and would like to do so. If only they were here, then Manila would feel just like home:

1. Bob's Bulalo Steak and Sate Babi-Imagine your ordinary bulalo soup but this time on a sizzling plate. Hot and so tender. Yummy... For the Sate Babi, pork barbecue topped with Peanut Butter sauce. Bob's specialty since 1940s.

2. Ericka's Cup's Very Berry Sundae (too bad they closed already)- definitely very berry. Vanilla and Strawberry sundae topped with Blueberries, Strawberries and Raspberries.. A sinful delight in every spoon! Better than sex. Hehehe. (You know the saying that Chocolate and Ice Cream are two items that we can all live without but we simply just can't resist? And that those two delightful desserts are comparative to sex in that way?)

3. Pepe's Dynamite Sticks- oozing with mozarella cheese with a touch of spice. Bursts in your mouth! A perfect appetizer or pulutan!

4. Kaisei's Chicken Teppan, Unagi Terriyaki, Sukiyaki- imagine the taste of Manila's Tempura Restaurant with the same price range but with the perfect high class ambiance... This is Kaisei. Everyone's favorite Japanese restaurant in Bacolod.

5. Gypsy Tea Room's Garlic Cheese Dip, Smoked Cheese Dip, Chocolate Fondue, Raspberry Tea Shake, Negros Coffee- looking for a place to chillout with the company of friends? Gypsy's is the perfect place. Occassionally they have live performances from various artists. You can also hold your poetry sessions in the venue. Gypsy's is the perfect "tambayan" for the budding artist. It surely is a place to inspire. They also have Card/Palm Reading, Henna/Permanent Tattoo, and items for sale. Their furniture are made of throw pillows and sofas. The Gypsy Tea Room is located in Level 1, Piazza Sorrento Bldg., Lacson St., Bacolod City

6. Kuppa's Wimpy's Burger, Pesto Pasta, Minestrone Soup- Their Wimpy's Burger is the perfect burger with cheese and mushroom sauce. Such a wonderful delight! A perfect view of St. John's Institute.

7. Nene's Spareribs, Burger Steak, Sisig- located across USLS-IS, it brings back memories of my childhood years. With a budget suited perfectly for the budding student, it would be perfectly alright to buy two heaping servings.

8. Pendy's Corned Beef Saucer and Pendy's de luxe Sandwich- Everyone has a certain place that will remind them of their childhood. For me, it's Pendy's. It brings back memories of my younger years when my mom was still alive. Pendy's is an old time favorite of my family. My mom was their number 1 customer. I will never forget the goodness of their tasteful delights...

Pendy's De Luxe
9. Bar 21's Batchoy and Crispy Crablets- I enjoy eating in restaurants that will remind me of my past. Bar 21 is another favorite of my family. It has been a witness of my life. Since I was a young girl dining in the restaurant after my class in Christian Academy of Bacolod, when I partied with my friends at age 13, and until I sat outside Cafe Bob's Lacson and tried to sketch the newly renovated Bar 21 at age 20. It's something I would definitely look forward going home to.

21 Restaurant's Kare-Kare

10. L'sea's Beef Brisket and Shrimp Rolls- Chinese cuisine at its best. Affordable too!

11. Calea's Cream Puff- Anyone knows how famous Calea cakes are. Even people from Manila have heard of Calea. Do try their cream puff for a change.

(L-R) Triple Chocolate Mousse, Ice Cream Cake, Chocolate Cake
12. Bascon Cafe's Bubba Cake- Another delicious delicacy. Bascon Cafe also offers a wide range of food plus its homey atmosphere. Perfect for laid back attitudes of the Bacolodnon.

Babba Cake, Black Sambo, Decadent Cake by Bascon Cafe
13. Vienna Kaffehaus' Sausages and Blackout Cake- Definitely try the cake guys. It's like nothing you've ever tasted before. It's my favorite cake by the way. And sadly, I haven't had a taste of this wonder in years. Will somebody in Bacolod please send me a whole cake? I'll refund the expenses, I swear!

That completes my list. If you've got anything to add, feel free to do so using the reply form below.
